Three years ago today, in the midst of a mass hunger strike waged by Palestinian political prisoners, Palestinian human rights organisations called for an international campaign against G4S for its complicity in the abhorrent system of Israeli arrest and detention. G4S, a British multinational company, has since 2007 provided security systems and other services for Israeli prisons and detention centres holding Palestinian political prisoners.
War on Want is a leading voice in the #StopG4S campaign, calling for boycott of and divestment from G4S until it ends its complicity in Israeli apartheid.
- 163 are children, some under 16 years old
- 13 are Palestinian Legislative Council members
- Over 450 are held in administrative detention, without charge or trial
Rates of detention have increased dramatically over the past year, but so has the chorus of voices demanding that G4S be held to account. The campaign is working! Campaigners around the world have managed to successfully pressure universities, churches, and even the Gates Foundation to divest from G4S. Last year at the company’s Annual General Meeting, G4S executives were forced to respond to protestors demanding answers, and were pressed to come clean on whether they will renew their contracts with Israeli apartheid.
